THIS SATURDAY JULY 24TH!
Corita Art Silkscreen Mash Up 2-5pm

Use the POP prints of Corita Kent artist, activist, teacher, nun! This Saturday you have the rare opportunity to make your own prints from the original art of Corita Kent.

In the late 1960s, Corita was the covergirl (literally, on Newsweek Magazine) of the "changing nun." For the first time ever, we're taking elements of the provocative and profound POP art by this "rebel with a paintbrush" and recombining them in our own way. Posters, Tee Shirts, Tote Bags, Stretched Canvas all yours to experiment with Corita's bold graphics, intense colors and pithy phrases. Items to screen priced from $10 - $50. All proceeds go to the Corita Art Foundation.

Sponsored in conjunction with Fresh Pressed Silkscreen, Gelato Bar, and Primrose Organics Hair Salon, this will be an afternoon of artmaking with a live DJ and special surprises. This event is part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the Immaculate Heart Community Corita's former order of nuns who claimed their independence from the Catholic Church in 1970 and continue to live by their consciences today with charitable programs for the elderly, underserved minority youth, women and girls in transition, affordable housing, healthcare and education. Visit www.corita.org or www.immaculateheartcommunity.org for more information.

VERANO GIGANTE!
ART AND MUSIC THE LAST SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH
This event is this Sunday at our Atwater Studio
Sunday July 25th 6pm - 10pm

This month we are setting up some live screenprinting, so bring your old shirts, worn skirts, leather jackets, or whatever else you want printed on!

There is nothing better than kicking it on a warm Summer night with friends, music, art and a good atmosphere. That's why we are opening up our studio the last Sunday of every month this Summer. Each month we will feature new works of art by up and coming as well as established local artists. There will be DJs, food, and drinks. Don't be shy, get some friends together and come hang out.

The DJ sets up at 6pm, come early if you're hungry, stay late for fun with good people. All art work displayed is created our customers. If you have any interest in displaying your work at one of our monthly shows email us

CHECK OUT OUR SUMMER CLASSES
ALL CLASSES ARE AT OUR ATWATER STUDIO (SIGN UP)
(Screen Printing) (Comics 101) (Camera Bootcamp) (Airbrush) (Plushy!) (Kid's Art & Music) (Pen & Ink) (Pinhole Camera) (Express) (Watercolor)

Besides our ever popular Screen Printing workshops, we have nine other classes currently running at our Atwater Studio.
From Comic Making 101 with Kiyoshi Nakazawa to Marjam Oskoui and her painting class, Express Yourself, we have a great series of classes and workshops lined up for you this summer. One in particular that we are incredibly excited about is the Kid's Art & Music class. Focusing on ages 7-12, each session will give the children an hour of hands on art making AND an hour of ukelele lesson (ukeleles provided!).
No matter whether you are an artist looking for a new tool, just want to brush up on an old technique, looking for a place to enrich your kids, or just feel like having fun, we are sure to have something for you.

If you have taken any of our classes and would like to give us feedback, please email us. We would love to learn what we can do to make it an even richer experience!

BLUE ROOSTER ART
A LOCAL STORE FOR A GLOBAL COMMUNITY
We love art.
That's enough to make the difference. Blue Rooster is run by artists for artists. No matter whether you are a budding novice or an old pro, we want to help you realize your vision. Here in Los Angeles we have gained a repution for excellent service, good selection, and great prices. With this website we hope to bring a little bit of that experience to the rest of the world. As we build this site, much as we've built the store, we hope it will become a connection point in your process; a place to find information, share ideas, and get good deals on your supplies.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email us.
