Classes/Workshops/Demos (sign up) Classes are back in session! Thanks to all of you for your interest in our classes! Check below for upcoming classes. Silkscreen classes are now scheduled for Sunday rather than Saturday. Private lessons in paint making, and surface preperation are also now offered. In addition, for those of you who are just curious and don't want the full plunge yet, we will be periodically conducting demos on canvas stretching and paint making. They are free and will usually be on the Sunday afternoons that a screen class is not in session. Our classes are always small, personal, and hands-on, making for an optimal learning experience. We prefer to focus on mechanics. Our classes are meant to give you the tools to express your ideas. At this point, all of our classes occur on Sunday afternoons, starting at 12 noon. They take between two and a half to four and a half hours, depending on the class and it's size. Something new that we are starting soon is Drawing and Painting Workshops. We are still looking for more models, so if you are one or know one come by with a resume or email us with the subject line: model. Drawing Workshop (sign up) Cost: $15 Duration: 7pm-10pm Materials:Bring your own Upcoming Classes:currently on hold Location: THIS WORKSHOP IS AT OUR STUDIO This is your basic cut and dry uninstructed drawing workshop. We provide the model, lights, and space and you just come and draw. We have been looking forward to doing this for some time and are excited to have gotten it going. We hope to eventually grow these workshops into drawing and painting classes, but for now we are going to keep it a low key environment to come hang out and draw in. Our STUDIO is at 2000 N. Figueroa, on the corner of Figueroa and San Fernando. This is right across the street from the Home Depot near Ave 26 in Cypress Park. It is about a ten minute drive from the store. Silkscreen Workshop (sign up) Cost: $200 with materials kit or $75 without Duration: about four hours Materials Kit includes:1 screen, 1 squeegee, 1 qt photo emulsion, 1 qt. emulsion remover, scoop coater, 5 tubs of ink (colors of your choice), and 1 set of clamps Upcoming Classes: 11/9, 11/23, 12/14 There are many ways to silkscreen. The focus of this workshop is teach the artist (whether an old pro or a total rookie) how to expose a screen using the sun and photo emulsion (so that you can do it in your studio/garage/backyard!). We walk you through the entire process, from image creation to finished print, introducing ideas and options along the way. If none of that made any sense to you, don't worry, it will after the workshop. And that's the point, it's really easy to show someone how to screen print, really hard to tell them how to do it. One afternoon with us will eliminate days of learning curve and frustration. No experience necessary. Just bring anything you want to print on (paper, clothes, wood, glass, whatever!), your ideas, and questions. Paint Making Workshop (sign up) Upcoming Classes: 12/7 That's right, make your own paint! It's easier than it sounds, and the higher level of quality and control you acheive in your paint is well worth the small amount of work you put in. Do you want paint that is the perfect consistancy, of higher quality than anything you can buy off the shelf, and all at a fraction of the cost? Then maybe you should mix your own. This workshop focuses on the handling and mixing of raw pigments. As well as teaching you to mix both oil and water based paints, we will cover both the technical and historical signifigance of pigments and their many binders. This class is perfect for the artistic techno-geek, meticulous control freak, or the simply curious. Surface Preperation Workshop (sign up) Upcoming Classes: 11/16 We could have called this a canvas stretching class, because at its heart, that is what it is. But, what about after you've stretched your canvas? In this workshop each student stretches two of their own canvasses and then prepares them according to one of the methods introduced and discussed. After this workshop you will not only be able to stretch a canvas that kicks the butt of any cheap pre-fab (ours included), but you will also know the exact surface necessary for your finished product. An extra fun thing we do in this class is stretch paper as well as fabric. This class is for the person who wants to get past the face and build their art from the ground up.
